The goal of the 'Buy with Confidence' scheme is precisely that, to give consumers confidence when shopping to avoid rip-offs and cowboys. This works by local authorities maintaining a list of reputable local businesses, across a range of trades. The companies which choose to become members have all been thoroughly and independently inspected by trained staff from the local authority Trading Standards Service and judged against the rules of the scheme.

Who runs the scheme?

The 'Buy with Confidence' scheme is managed by the Trading Standards departments across participating County and Local Authorities. Devon County Council is a participating authority.

What assurance do I have that a business on the scheme is reliable?

Before a company becomes a member of the scheme it is subjected to impartial and stringent checks. These are carried out by Trading Standards staff checking, among other things, that the company is trustworthy and complies with the law. All consumer complaints made against members are monitored closely on a regular basis.
